NEW YORK — Thomas J. Hogan, a 35-year veteran of the May Department Stores Co. who was chief executive of five May divisions from the Eighties until he retired last June, died of cancer on Tuesday. He was 65.

The funeral is today at St. Anne’s Roman Catholic Church in Houston at 1 p.m. Hogan played a key role in May’s expansion by orchestrating store openings and helping to integrate acquisitions into the chain. His last job was as president and chief executive of the 66-unit Foley’s division based in Houston, which he joined in 1995.
