PARIS -- The Chambre Syndicale has scheduled the Paris spring-summer 1995 ready-to-wear week from Oct. 10-18, it said Friday.
The dates defuse a simmering conflict with Milan by giving the fashion horde a full weekend to make its way from the Italian rtw shows there to Paris.
As reported, the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana, which organizes shows in Italy, had already decided to hold the Milan season from Oct. 1-6.
The Chambre's rtw members voted on the calendar at a meeting here Thursday evening. They also decided that the fall/winter 1995 rtw season will take place from March 3-11, after the Milan shows.
The vote appears to have halted long-running attempts by many Paris houses to advance the Paris season ahead of Milan.
"We've felt for a long time that buyers, press and, above all, the models needed some breathing space between the two big European seasons," said Jacques Mouclier, president of the Chambre.
"Plus, many buyers like to stay a few extra days in Milan to write collections. These dates will make things easier for everyone," he added.
Others put a somewhat different spin on the Chambre's decision to keep Paris showing after Milan.
"You see, I was right, but what does it matter?" said Pierre Berge, president of Yves Saint Laurent, who was forced out of the presidency of the chambre's rtw division last spring after refusing to accept a majority vote to move the Paris season ahead of Milan. Berge was replaced by Vladimir de Kousmine, managing director of Nina Ricci.
"How can the Chambre Syndicale be run by Mr. Mouclier, who is incapable of getting its members to agree to anything, and Mr. de Kousmine, whose house doesn't even mount a runway show?" Berge added. "I've nothing but scorn for these people."

“It’s life, I’m going to face it,” @mingxi11 sighed. “I fell, but you know, I think the most important thing is that I get back up. I had the love, the help from my sister — the girl next to me Gizele [Oliveira] — she’s so nice. When I went backstage everybody was trying to comfort me like ‘Oh Ming, it’s OK.’ I’m really, really touched. I think it’s them who gave me the courage to go back on stage for the finale,” Xi told WWD of her fall at the @victoriassecret fashion show. “I just wanted to create this fully rounded character, but I do think what excited me most was just the opportunity to give a group of people representation that I feel needs it. I like to do characters in projects that stand for something and Karolina definitely does, so that was really exciting to me,” @ginnygardner says of her new role in @hulu’s “The Runaways.” Gardner plays Karolina Dean, a queer superhero, which is a rarity for @marvel.
