Patrik Ervell’s vision of American sportswear doesn’t include icons of the country-club set, references to specific sports or lifestyle branding. Instead the former fashion editor is preoccupied with structure, textile innovation and youthful proportions. But his pure approach to design hasn’t stopped him from establishing signatures and creating some extremely distinctive pieces, such as a mitered, hooded jacket for spring and a powder blue denim jacket lined with fake shearling for fall. The silhouette formed by his oversize blazer and cigarette trouser has been a consistent and influential element of his serene runway shows. This is his second CFDA nomination.
