Movies, shiny fabrics and holidays at the beach are among designers' eclectic range of inspirations at the moment. Frida Giannini, for instance, was thinking about "Rebel Without a Cause" when she created her resort lineup for Gucci. "It's a couple escaping from the city on a motorcycle — they're going for a new experience," she said. Meanwhile, in her first resort runway show, Nicole Miller turned out a tight collection of fresh, beachy looks. A ticking-stripe jacket paired with shorts looked cool and relaxed, and leaf-patterned skirts were perfect for a night out in the tropics. Tibi's Amy Smilovic was inspired by a trip to Palm Beach and Casa de Campo to create tunic dresses and shorts that might have been worn by the young Ali MacGraw or Julie Christie. Brian Reyes focused on shine, including cellophane silk dresses. And some of Charles Nolan's favorite looks for resort were short, lingerie-influenced frocks featuring lace, tulle and other boudoir touches.

It was about pieces you’d create and keep forever, things that have a permanence to it,” designer Erdem Moralioglu said. #wwdeye (📷: Katie Jones)
