PHILADELPHIA -- Students at the Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science are experimenting with the latest computer technology in printed textile design thanks to the recent installation of an Athena Design System. The installation was made possible by a grant from the Barra Foundation.

"Athena's innovative system meets the designers' technical needs for repeats, scale, color and digital engraving, while also responding directly to the designers' creative demands," said Joyce Storey, professor of textiles and design at PCT&S.

In addition to drawing and painting directly on screen, PCT&S students use the system to combine scanned artwork with scanned or printed existing elements that can create textures and layers within a piece.
