The post had been held by Sophia Chan, who designed Perry Ellis Dresses since its launch in November. Chan left to pursue other interests about four weeks ago, according to Richard Weissman, president of AV 2000 Inc., the company that holds the license.
“After a successful spring release [for Perry Ellis Dresses], we know that Kenny can continue to carry the ball,” said Weissman.
Bonavitacola will also design a Perry Ellis eveningwear collection, which was launched this month for fall retailing.
Bonavitacola was most recently head designer at Kasper Dress, a division of the bankrupt Seventh Avenue dress and suit resource Kasper ASL. Previously, he had served as design director at Tahari and the Warren Group. He was also the director of licensed products at Giorgio Sant’Angelo and served as a consultant to such companies as Estee Lauder and Sony International.”
