NEW YORK — Perry Ellis International Inc. appointed George Pita chief financial officer on Monday.
Pita joined the company in 2002 and managed several different divisions before becoming senior vice president of finance and controller in April 2002. He has been the interim cfo since Nov. 1, when Timothy Page resigned.
Page guided Perry Ellis through some major acquisitions, including Jantzen Apparel Corp. in 2002. That deal bought Perry Ellis the rights to licenses for Nike competitive swimwear and accessories and Tommy Hilfiger women’s, juniors’ and girl’s swimwear.
Pita will have similar duties, including piloting Perry Ellis chairman and chief executive officer George Feldenkreis through the company’s acquisition of Tropical Sportswear International Corp.

"It's really hard sometimes. I think I have a reputation for being really tough and aggressive and pushy but I really am a very shy person who wants to be liked, and that's the conflict constantly. There's something that takes hold - I want people to like me, I don't want to be mean - but if I see something that just cries out to be answered, I go for it," says renowned NBC News correspondent Andrea Mitchell.
