NEW YORK — John Pomerantz, chairman of the Leslie Fay Co., is on the mend after being hit by a car on Jan. 31.

Pomerantz, recuperating at his Westchester home, was struck in Mamaroneck, N.Y., crossing Old Boston Post Road on his way to an appointment with an acupuncturist. He dislocated his shoulder, broke three ribs and his hip, and fractured his tibia, knee and right thumb.

Pomerantz said the accident occurred at 6 p.m. as he was headed to his appointment "for what I thought was a bad foot."

"I heard a screeching, and saw lights right next to me. I jumped back and the car hit my right leg, and I fell on my shoulder and hit my head," he said. He was rushed by ambulance to Sound Shore Hospital in Mamaroneck and released later that night.

"I hope in a couple of weeks to be back to work," said Pomerantz, although he added it could be months before everything heals.

An officer with the Village of Mamaroneck Police Department said he couldn’t release information on whether charges were brought against the driver of the car.
