NEW YORK -- Prada, the Milan fashion house, has signed a lease for a new shop here and has also completed plans to show its collection next week under the tents in Bryant Park.
Prada will hold its first runway show here on Saturday, April 9, at 7:30 p.m. in the park's Josephine Pavilion, according to Fern Mallis, executive director of 7th on Sixth and the Council of Fashion Designers of America, which helps produce the shows.
This brings the total number of shows under the auspices of 7th on Sixth to 59. There were 40 last season. While no other Italian designers are showing this season, Mallis said there is much interest in the November shows from Giorgio Armani and Gianni Versace, among others.
The new Prada boutique will be at 28 East 70th St. at Madison Avenue, it has been learned. It will be the company's flagship, at 12,000 square feet, with three floors plus a basement. Prada executives here declined to comment on when it might open or the lines to be carried.
It will be the company's second Prada store in Manhattan. Prada has a shop at 45 East 57th St. and plans to open a Miu Miu shop in SoHo in September. Miu Miu is Prada's secondary line.

The party, which took place in LA, also marked the opening of their pop-up shop. “I was interested in creating a collection that wasn’t in any way disposable. It was about pieces you’d create and keep forever, things that have a permanence to it,” designer Erdem Moralioglu said. #wwdeye (📷: Katie Jones)
