RE-CYCLING: Is the romance between Tory Burch and Lance Armstrong back on? The couple were rumored to have broken up last fall. but the champion cyclist was skulking about at the designer’s presentation Tuesday evening at Christie’s. “Where are her brothers, I’ll go hang with them,” Armstrong asked handlers as he shied away from the slew of flashbulbs and film crews. Less timid were guests including Jamie Tisch, Elizabeth Wiatt, Amanda Brooks and Marisa Noel Brown, who came out in support of their friend.
Burch couldn’t be reached for comment on her former flame, but there is a chance she and Armstrong are still kaput. After all, the petite blonde has a reputation for maintaining friendships with her exes: former husband Chris Burch still runs her company.
WORK IT: Fashion Week parties are generally reserved for the younger set, but Tuesday night, Bergdorf Goodman drew amore mature crowd for cocktails to celebrate a special exclusive edition of Susan Mulcahy’s forthcoming book “Drawing Fashion: The Art of Kenneth Paul Block.”
The store’s fourth floor was packed to the gills with guests like Judy Peabody, Gloria Vanderbilt (one of the evening’s hosts), Arnold Scaasi and Anne Slater. They sipped vodka and Champagne while admiring some of Block’s framed drawings, which were on sale. The octogenarian artist and guest of honor refused to sit and worked the room (with elegant cane in hand), posing for pictures and charming the crowd.
Only co-host Isaac Mizrahi, sporting a blue bandana on his head, seemed to be suffering from sartorial stress——after all, his namesake collection was showing the next day. “My skeleton and bones are here but my mind is back in the studio,” said the designer, “Where I’m heading in ten minutes.”
CLOTHES ENVY: Parents concerned that watching the show “Gossip Girls” will transform their children into materialistic, spendthrifts can take some comfort in knowing that at least on of the series’ stars 15 year-old Taylor Momsen has her head screwed on straight. The actress took in the fall Philosophy di Alberta Ferretti presentation Tuesday night alongside her mother Colette. “She loves the whole collection,” said Mom. “But she’s going to have to work a lot harder if she wants to buy everything!”Momsen for her part was hoping she could don some of the looks once shooting starts back up. “I’m going to have to have a talk with the costume designer about [my character] Jenny,” she grinned.
Other Ferretti fans in the crowd included Tatiana Santo Domingo, Coco Brandolini, Nicky Hilton and longtime loyalist Patricia Clarkson, who has a lot on her plate between press for her new film “Married Life” with Chris Cooper and shooting the Scorcese pic “Shutter Island.”
SEW LONG: Guests at Nanette Lepore’s runway show were reminded of the dwindling Garment District just beyond Bryant Park. In a letter placed on each seat, Lepore noted how the factories, trim and fabric shops, design studios and showrooms “are on the verge of extinction,” due to the redevelopment of the neighborhood. The designer urged attendees to write Mayor Michael Bloomberg or call the city’s 311 hotline to voice their concern. She also gave guests pins with such slogans as “Don’t Leave NY Naked: Save the Garment District” and “Sewing is Sexy” as another way to show their support. Lepore, is steadfast in her own right. As the letter noted, her fall collection was designed, cut and sewn in the district.
