NEW YORK — Drugstore executives descended on Manhattan Tuesday for the annual National Association of Chain Drug Stores Charitable Dinner.

The event, held at the Sheraton New York, raised more than $1.6 million. The proceeds will be allocated among several charities yet to be selected by the NACDS Foundation. The fundraiser, started in 1999, has already distributed $4 million among some 30 public service and philanthropic organizations.

Keynote speaker Rudolph Giuliani delivered a message of leadership centering on the need for optimism and willingness to take on challenges. One retailer attendee described the former mayor’s 45-minute speech as “inspiring.”
