NEW YORK — Robert Dakin has joined The J. Jill Group in the new post of vice president of retail store operations.

Dakin will be responsible for management of all retail operations and ensuring brand cohesiveness as J. Jill continues to roll out retail stores. Once exclusively a catalog and Internet retailer, the Quincy, Mass.-based company now operates 72 retail stores and plans to have 87 in operation by the conclusion of 2002, a year it began with 51 units.

Dakin joins J. Jill from Brooks Bros., where he was most recently executive vice president and director of stores. Earlier, he was senior vice president and director of stores at Ann Taylor.

Dakin reports to Dennis Adomaitis, president of J. Jill Retail.

Gordon Cooke, president and chief executive of J. Jill, commented in a statement: "As a retail veteran with over 25 years in the industry, Robert’s wealth of experience and demonstrated leadership abilities will be invaluable to our company as we continue to aggressively expand our retail presence."
