MILAN — JLo and Liz eyewear have found a new home.

Italian eyewear group Safilo has bought the Denver-based Outlook Eyewear Co., the licensee for JLo and Liz Claiborne eyewear, for an undisclosed sum.

Outlook Eyewear was previously owned by Safilo’s Italian rival, Luxottica. Through the acquisition, Safilo added several names to its portfolio, including Liz Claiborne and its subbrands LizSport, Claiborne and Liz Claiborne Readers; as well as JLo by Jennifer Lopez and B.U.M. Equipment.

Safilo was already involved in the Liz Claiborne eyewear business, having won the license for the brand’s prescription eyewear in December 2002. The first collection of Liz Claiborne sunglasses produced by Safilo will hit the U.S. market in August.

Safilo said the brands acquired through the Outlook deal will be distributed exclusively in the United States and Canada.

“Outlook is a completely autonomous company, with its own resources in product development, marketing, sales and distribution,” said Safilo president Vittorio Tabacchi. “Its significant share of the moderate market of sunglasses in the U.S. and Canada was extremely enticing to Safilo considering its continual expansion in this important market segment.”
