NEW YORK — Charlotte, N.C., is getting an infusion of luxury in the form of a Saks Fifth Avenue store.

The retailer will anchor a shopping center in The Village at Seven Eagles with a two-level, 83,000-square-foot store. The 19-acre development, a venture between The Harris Land Co. of Charlotte and The Metropolitan Partnership Ltd. of Washington, is set to open in 2005 and will also house a luxury hotel and residences.

Other retailers taking space in the center have yet to be named, and while the luxury hotel will managed by a former president of Ritz Carlton Hotels, Horst Schulze, the name of the hotel has not been announced either.

“We’ve been working to ensure that the demographics and the project fit,” said Dee-Dee Harris, president of Harris. “We’ve been working on this project for 10 years. We live here, we know the needs of the area. This project is about developing what is not already here.”
