TEMPER, TEMPER: Poor Laura Whitcomb. On Saturday night, with her show already half an hour late and the models nowhere near ready to put on their first looks, Oribe threw a mini-temper tantrum. "Those people out there are going to just have to wait," he said, refusing to work any faster. "If the girls don't look right, they can't go out there. They'll just have to wait." The show started an hour late, and Whitcomb nearly came to blows with the hair stylist at the finale, when she wanted to brush out a model's hair. Near tears, Whitcomb had to be forced to take her runway bow. Backstage, supportive fans told her not to be upset. "It doesn't matter if you got into a fight with him," said one editor. "Everybody has."
A CONTENTED BRAVO: So who will take over at Bergdorf's, should chairman Burton Tansky make the move to Dallas for the top post at Neiman's? Saks president Rosemarie Bravo? Asked at Marc Jacobs's show on Saturday about the rumors that she was one of the top contenders, Bravo shook her head and said: "I have no comment, except to say I'm very happy at Saks."
GIANNI'S MOVE: New York's Big Tops may not be a match for the $1 million glass house in which he shows in Milan, but Gianni Versace was planning to give the 7th on Sixth tents the once-over Sunday in preparation for his expected move to show his collection here in November.
BOOK 'EM, DONNA: Donna Karan decided at the last minute that since no other designer is featuring celebrity models in their shows this season, she'll do it. Of course, she's been known to change her mind, but Donna has put a hold on Isabella Rossellini, Sandra Bernhard, Sofia Coppola and Zoe Cassavetes for her collection show Wednesday. And for an added attraction, Sofia's pop, Francis Ford Coppola is expected to attend.
HOT SPOT: People still find time to eat during fashion week -- especially at 44 at The Royalton. Last Wednesday, Carolina Herrera lunched with Jackie O., Anna Wintour with Ralph Lauren and S.I. Newhouse, and Calvin Klein with wife Kelly. On Friday, Calvin turned up with Suzy Menkes, Peggy Siegel dished with Patty Raynes, James Truman huddled with Graydon Carter, Jean-Piero Dotti dined with Ellin Saltzman, and Gianni Versace held court with his sister Donatella, Paul Beck and Antonio D'Amico.'ROUND MIDNIGHT: In a crowded party field Friday night, Ghost definitely won the place-to-be award. Things heated up around midnight -- literally -- as Kate Moss and Johnny Depp couldn't keep their hands off each other, while Bridget Hall, Naomi Campbell, Steven Meisel and Kelly Klein played until the wee hours.
On Saturday night, Kate and Naomi threw a fete at Nell's as a follow-up to their Paris party. Everybody was there, including Linda Evangelista and Kyle MacLachlan, Elle Macpherson, Patrick Demarchelier and designer Victor Alfaro, who let off some steam on the dance floor.
BIG BONDING: Kal Ruttenstein and rap star Heavy Dee -- whose figure matches his name -- bonded at a fashion show Saturday night. "I'm happy to meet you," said a silver sneaker-clad Ruttenstein to the rapper. "It's not often I meet other people my size."
PUNK MEETS THE GODMOTHER: Anna Sui, whose runway music is usually a step ahead of the rest of the fashion flock, has had a tough time putting together the sounds for her show this season. "All the new alternative bands were very folksy," said the designer. "That may be great to listen to, but it's not great to walk down a runway to."
Maybe she should have asked for help from Johnny Lydon, former Sex Pistol and current author, who's planning to attend her show tonight as the guest of Anita Sarko. Other celebs who might pop in are hot items Leonardo DiCaprio, Juliette Lewis, Winona Ryder, Drew Barrymore, Smashing Pumpkins and Marisa Tomei. "She's quite a fashion gal," said Sui of Tomei.
MUSIC MAN: Byron Lars is tuning into MTV. The designer has struck a deal to design a clothing line for R&B diva group En Vogue. But it's not just racy video trappings: The line -- for fall '94 -- will be sold on MTV's home shopping program, currently in development. No word yet on whether En Vogue or Lars will actually pitch the line.
FIRST DIBS: Saks Fifth Avenue is the first retailer to have the latest fall collections in its store -- sort of.The Fifth Avenue flagship has installed a bank of 16 21-inch TVs in its 49th Street windows, and is rolling tapes of SA's fall 1994 designer collections the day after they're trotted down the runways.
Saks said the monitors show several collections each day, and run until midnight. Those shown so far include Richard Tyler for Anne Klein, Badgley Mishka, Todd Oldham, DKNY, Donna Karan and Adrienne Vittadini.
The tapes will roll through Thursday, the day after the shows end.

“It’s life, I’m going to face it,” @mingxi11 sighed. “I fell, but you know, I think the most important thing is that I get back up. I had the love, the help from my sister — the girl next to me Gizele [Oliveira] — she’s so nice. When I went backstage everybody was trying to comfort me like ‘Oh Ming, it’s OK.’ I’m really, really touched. I think it’s them who gave me the courage to go back on stage for the finale,” Xi told WWD of her fall at the @victoriassecret fashion show. I mean @millajovovich is simply Berlin!” said Lindbergh. #wwdfashion
“You know, I think audiences expect a certain performance so I have to deliver to them what they’re expecting to a certain degree. But I’m also a different actor and a different person, I have my own spin on the character,” says @noahegalvin of his takeover of the leading role in “Dear Evan Hansen” following the departure of @bensplatt, who originated the role. “I just wanted to create this fully rounded character, but I do think what excited me most was just the opportunity to give a group of people representation that I feel needs it. I like to do characters in projects that stand for something and Karolina definitely does, so that was really exciting to me,” @ginnygardner says of her new role in @hulu’s “The Runaways.” Gardner plays Karolina Dean, a queer superhero, which is a rarity for @marvel.
