SURFING IN THE U.S.: BNT Connections LLC has signed a licensing deal with Pacific Motion, a 20-year-old European surf and action sports brand, to produce the brand’s surfwear in the U.S. Sold in 16 European countries, the collection will be available in about 200 specialty stores beginning in March, said Doug Waterman, chief operating officer.
Projected wholesale volume for women’s apparel for the first 18 months is at least $10 million, said Thakur Bakshani, president. Skorts, shorts, dresses, halter tops, capri pants, rashguard tops and skirts are offered in the spring line, with most wholesale prices falling between $15 and $25. BNT’s parent company, BNT Connections Impex Ltd., plans to produce goods in its 15 factories in India, and will source some items from China and the Pacific Rim.
For fall, Pacific Motion focuses on snowboard looks. Streetwear will be offered with the surfwear and snowboard apparel. Signature hats, sunglasses, backpacks and notebooks are also offered, and watches and perfume are in development.
Based in Avignon, France, Pacific Motion generates about $58 million in worldwide sales. The New York office is located in the Empire State Building, but the company plans to relocate to a larger space on Broadway by the end of the year. The U.S. group is also building a team of sales representatives to carry the line.
To trumpet the launch, the company will run ads in the February editions of Snowboarder, Surfer, Skateboarding, Skateboarder and SG magazines.
