DOCKERS GET SPORTY: Levi Strauss & Co. will launch Dockers Sport at department stores and specialty stores for fall 2004 through a licensing deal with Kellwood Co.
Aimed at the value-oriented, active-lifestyle shopper, Dockers Sport will be sold in department and specialty stores, and will ship to stores in July. The athletic-inspired collection will feature tops and bottoms with novelty textures, embroidery and seasonless fabrics.
Basha Cohen has been named executive vice president of design and merchandising for Dockers tops and Dockers Sport divisions. Prior to joining the company last month, she was senior vice president of product development for J. Crew. At Dockers, Cohen is responsible for merchandising, designing and managing the overall look of the brand.
She is based at Kellwood’s Dockers showroom at 1407 Broadway in New York. Debra Fishman Caplan, the new vice president of sales for the tops and sport divisions, is also based there.
CLEARY JOINS SPEEDO: Robert Cleary Jr. has been named national vice president of sales at Speedo, a division of Authentic Fitness Corp. He is based in Los Angeles and reports to Roger Williams, president and chief operating officer.
Cleary will direct Speedo’s national department store sales program, supervising several divisions, including men’s, women’s, accessories and children’s. Before joining Authentic Fitness, Cleary was vice president of retail sales at Russell Corp. During his 22 years at Russell, he held various positions, rising from a sales representative to vice president.
CAPEZIO’S NEW LINE: This fall, Capezio will unveil a new division called Overs & Unders. Aimed at athletes, dancers and performers, the collection consists of foundation and layering pieces such as seamless Meryl Skinlife activewear and a microfiber camisole.
Over & Unders will retail from $10 to $40 and will be offered at specialty stores. Performers from New York’s theatrical, ballet and modern dance companies helped wear-test the new pieces.
Etro’s show, titled “The Tree of Life,” was a celebration of the house’s 50th anniversary. “My father founded the company in 1968, which was the year of counterculture and psychedelia.
