NEW YORK — "The Salon International de la Lingerie is one of the most important trade shows for launching new lingerie products and is considered to be the premier lingerie venue of the world," said Krista Tonra, general manager of Simone Perele USA.
Tonra said the timing of the fair in January is important "because [American] retailers can see a full range of fall products before the March market in the U.S. Retailers can prepare and plan their assortments for fall in advance."
The Simone Perele brand of French foundations was founded in 1948 and is among the best-known labels in the world of French undergarments. U.S. sales are estimated to be close to $1 million. Tonra described the "image and spirit" of Simone Perele intimates as "very feminine-looking in a palette of rich colors and embroidered laces, many of which translate beautifully into bridal."
Asked what is the trademark of Simone Perele, Tonra replied: "We are known for our consistent fit and detail." For example, she said special effects in bridal corsetry include boning that is lined in soft velvet for comfort and a luxurious tactile feeling on the skin.
Tonra said the company will continue to show spring 2003, which includes a group of bras and panties of cotton and Lycra spandex that she described as "sporty chic," in addition to fall 2003, which is still in development.
Suggested retail for bras in the U.S. average between $65 and $100. Panties, which include thongs, bikinis, boy-cut briefs, full briefs and thongs with attached garters, are $39 to $89.
Bra cup sizes for padded contour bras start at 32A and go to 38C; demicup styles are 32B to 38D, and two full-cup styles, one of which features a two-part cup, go to 40D, while a three-part cup style is sized up to 42F.
“I’ve struggled my whole life to find a bathing suit that fits me that doesn’t look like a maternity bra. I’m proud of the line because it’s an accurate representation of me rather than me putting on someone else’s clothes,” says @atlantabean of her swimwear collaboration with @piaarrobio, LPA X ATL. The two decided on a swimwear collab and increased the industry standard size for the pieces. Read more about the line — and our interview with de Cadenet Taylor and Arrobio — on WWD.com #wwdfashion
