NEW YORK — The Skin Cancer Foundation outdid itself this week — by far.

The organization held its sixth annual Skin Sense Award Gala on Monday, raising $900,000 for skin cancer awareness and prevention, an amount that widely eclipsed the $350,000 sum raised in 2000. Last year’s gala was canceled because of the Sept. 11 attacks. Monday’s soirée also honored two beauty insiders: Jack Stahl, president and chief executive officer of Revlon, and Pete Born, vice president and associate publisher of WWD.
