NEW YORK — A theme that combines Mod ruffians and a John Singer Sargent heiress might not automatically seem particularly felicitous, but that’s exactly what the results were when Ralph Lauren crossed these patrician and plebian motifs in his fall collection. The result was pure Lauren, with rugged tweeds, gentle silk skirts, an autumnal palette and Belle Epoque evening dresses. Here, his cashmere and wool sweaters, worn with a sequined skirt.
