NEW YORK -- Gerald Solovei is leaving as president of Scaasi Boutique, the ready-to-wear collection designed by Arnold Scaasi. He joined Scaasi in 1987 and became president in 1988.
Solovei said Tuesday he would officially leave the company at the end of June but has agreed to remain as a part-time consultant until the fall collection is shipped, around the end of August
"I have no immediate plans except to make time for myself, put new coals on the fire, and physically and mentally rejuvenate myself," Solovei said. "Most of my life has been spent in the fashion business, and I felt it was time to get myself moving in a new direction. I wouldn't say no to staying in fashion, but I hope whatever I do, it will be as exciting and challenging."
Scaasi said he has no immediate plans to name a successor to Solovei.
"We have a very good staff and Gerald's responsibilities will be assumed by others in the organization," Scaasi said.
Solovei is a former president of the New York Fashion Council.
