The large black batons wielded by models in the Sopopular presentation was an ominous take on the term “clubbing gear,” but weapons aside, the collection proved that designer Daniel Blechman is capable of more than just his trademark hip-hop wear. A fitted gray double-breasted wool tweed jacket was well executed with the same rebellious twist found the matching pants, which fit well but ended a few inches above the ankle. A single-breasted wool coat was toughened up with black leather cuffs, while slim wool sweaters were paired with stone-washed jeans with vertical zip detailing — a fresh take on an Eighties throwback. The bad-boy theme was also evident in a trail of metal studs that ran down the side of jersey pants, as well as stud detailing on the shoulders of a zip-front jacket and shirt collars peeking out from under sweaters.
