EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — It wasn’t even 70 degrees at Giants Stadium on Sunday, but in this area, Zootopia means the start of summer.
Mariah Carey, Ashanti, Ja Rule, Ruben Studdard, Kelly Clarkson and Aerosmith were just a few of the 18 performers at the five-hour show that previewed some of the hottest performers of the coming summer. Busta Rhymes made a surprise appearance and TLC’s Chilli and T-Boz sang together for what was billed as the last time in a tribute to third member Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes, who died in a car accident last year.
Backstage was the gift lounge, where celebs stopped in to pick up goodies from sponsors such as DKNY Jeans, Rampage and Kipling. They also signed a white DKNY Jeans jacket to be auctioned to benefit Musicians On Call, an organization that offers live performances given by volunteer artists for hospitalized patients. In true diva form, Carey stuck her head in for a peek and ordered her stylist to pick up some things for her because she was leaving.
“They weren’t even looking at what they were packing up,” said one source in the lounge. “It was crazy. The stylist had to run after her with bags full of clothes because she was heading out the door.”
