LOS ANGELES — Roberto Cavalli and Paul Frank Industries are among the nine retailers joining the South Coast Plaza universe.
Scheduled to open in September, the Cavalli location at the shopping center in Costa Mesa, Calif., is the Italian designer’s first West Coast retail unit and will occupy 2,300 square feet. All white with steel fixtures, the boutique will carry the collections for men and women; accessories, including belts, shoes, handbags, watches, and sunglasses. Home furnishings and the brand’s children’s line will round out the mix.
Cavalli apparently took to the Orange County lifestyle on a trip there last year.
“He flew in from Florence for a trunk show at Nordstrom and fashion show at the Ritz-Carlton [in Laguna Niguel] and he loved the area, and all these beautiful ladies loved the line,” said a spokesman for Cavalli. With the fifth U.S. unit in the works, another is on the way, he said. Cavalli’s Rodeo Drive store in Beverly Hills is slated to open in December.
Costa Mesa-based Paul Frank will open a store in its hometown in July after opening 11 locations elsewhere, including five in Japan. The 1,500-square-foot unit, opening in the center’s west wing, will sell men’s and women’s clothing, sleepwear, swimwear, watches and accessories. The move is a departure for Paul Frank, which typically eschews malls in favor of street locations.
Kiehl’s Since 1851, Mimi Maternity, Eileen Fisher, Temple St. Clair, Vertigo, Silk Trading Co. and a Claim Jumper restaurant will also open this year at the 280-store center.
Debra Gunn Downing, South Coast Plaza’s executive director of marketing, said business is ahead of last year with a boost in drive-market tourists, despite a decline in international customers.
