ATLANTA — Scott Creelman is retiring as president of Spalding on March 31, 2008, after more than 32 years of leading the brand.

Doug Kelly, president of Russell Athletic, will assume the overall managing responsibilities of both the Russell Athletic and Spalding brands, which also includes Bike, Dudley, AAI and Huffy Sports. Creelman will assist in the transition and will serve as a consultant to the company after retirement.

Russell Corp. acquired Spalding Sports Worldwide in 2003 as part of the company’s strategy to become an athletic company. Russell itself was acquired by Berkshire-Hathaway last year and is operated through Fruit of the Loom, a subsidiary of Berkshire-Hathaway.

Kelly will continue the further integration of the Russell and Spalding brands. A year ago the Spalding and Russell team sales forces merged in order to better compete in the institutional markets. The company said that moving forward under one direction will allow the organization to maximize synergies that will enhance both brands in the marketplace.

Fruit of the Loom John Holland said, “Scott leaves behind the legacy of a premier brand, well positioned for future success.”
