Spring 2014 Paris Collections: Day Seven

Chanel, Alexander McQueen and Valentino were among Tuesday's highlights.

Making mischief with the nose-in-the-air notion of fashion as art, Karl Lagerfeld delivered a powerful Chanel collection surrounded by paintings and sculptures of his own invention. “The idea came from people who overreact to art today,” said Lagerfeld. “It’s all become a little too much.” The designer conceptualized 75 pieces of art, often riffs on Chanel iconography, and turned his Grand Palais runway into a giant gallery. The impressive theme carried into the wonderfully colorful clothes, based on vintage paint-swatch cards.
