On Sunday, Stephen Burrows returned to Paris, where it all started for him back in 1973 at the French-American fashion extravaganza at Versailles. And his afternoon show felt like something of a homecoming party.

To begin with, Burrows’ casting was perfect — a bevy of models danced down the runway, looking as if they were really having fun.

And the collection he showed was just as upbeat; in fact, it’s hard to imagine someone wearing one of his exuberant dresses with a frown.

Lending the season’s sporty motif a new joie de vivre, Burrows spliced together a slew of bright jersey dresses with simple sophistication. Whether long or short, delicately ruffled or draped just so, they were all built to move.
