NEW YORK — Steven Alan, the hip SoHo retailer, and designer Francis Hendy are opening stores downtown in September.
Alan is opening a 2,200-square-foot shop at 103 Franklin Street in TriBeCa. The store will sell men’s and women’s fashions from such labels as Alice Roi, United Bamboo, Commes des Garçon and A.P.C. The store’s design will run to the old-fashioned with 20th-century display cases and floor-to-ceiling shelving, giving it an "urban general store" feel, according to the designer. A soft opening is set for August, while the official debut is in September.

"It's really hard sometimes. I think I have a reputation for being really tough and aggressive and pushy but I really am a very shy person who wants to be liked, and that's the conflict constantly. There's something that takes hold - I want people to like me, I don't want to be mean - but if I see something that just cries out to be answered, I go for it," says renowned NBC News correspondent Andrea Mitchell.
