WASHINGTON — Martha Stewart has provided approximately 1,050 pages of documents to the House committee investigating her for possible insider trading.
A spokeswoman for Rep. Jim Greenwood (R.,Pa.), who chairs the House panel’s oversight subcommittee, said that Stewart’s attorneys delivered the documents around 4 p.m.
Speaking on CNN Tuesday evening, Greenwood said, "We will begin to review them to get a good idea whether they met our requirements, and I suspect they have."
He also said he suspects gaps in the story could remain after reviewing the documents. The panel will decide around Labor Day whether to subpoena Stewart to testify.
"The easier thing would have been for her to come tell us her story," said Greenwood on CNN. "She says she’s completely innocent, and it would help us and her if she would fill in the details in an interview."
The House Energy and Commerce Committee is looking into Stewart’s records to determine what she knew, if anything, when she sold her ImClone Systems Inc. stock the day before it plummeted on the announcement that the Food and Drug Administration had not approved its new cancer drug.
