Throwing a dinner party the first work day after Fashion Week requires some chutzpah. But Steve Sadove and Ron Frasch of Saks Fifth Avenue knew even the most exhausted fashionista couldn’t turn down a free meal at Le Cirque, where they hosted an extremely intimate (30 or so person) dinner in honor of Peter Som and Bill Blass Monday night.
Marjorie Gubelmann, Carlos Mota, Andrew Saffir, Daniel Benedict and a group of editors sipped wine and nibbled on hors d’oeuvres, as Som enjoyed his post-show glow.
“I baked apple pie and made split pea soup,” he said of his weekend R & R activities. “And I dragged my carcass back to the gym.”
Unlike the shenanigans of a week ago, this meal started promptly, so much so that Lauren Santo Domingo made it just in time for the first course of lobster salad.
“I’m sorry I’m late,” she apologized to her tablemates, explaining she had just returned from her honeymoon on Saturday. “I am still on Tokyo time.”
The newlywed was also adjusting to her first New York social outing with her married name——her place card read “Lauren Davis Santo Domingo.”
“My initials are LSD,” she joked.
After steak, Chilean sea bass and miniature chocolate fondants, guests happily departed well before 10 p.m.
