NEW YORK--Last week's FiFi winners received another round of applause during the annual Cartier Luncheon at the Waldorf-Astoria Wednesday. But the only winner to take the podium was Fashion Institute of Technology Cosmetics and Fragrance Marketing student Linda Mendoza, who was awarded a $3,000 scholarship for academic excellence from FIT.Mendoza who graduates with a B.S. this spring, has already worked at Mana Products, Maybelline and Prescriptives through FIT's internship program. She currently assists at upstart beauty firm Real Cosmetics, which just launched at Nordstrom."I want to explore all possibilities in this dynamic business," said Mendoza, who was selected for her grade point average and performance in the school's internship and mentoring programs. In accepting the award she said that beauty is more than just getting the right lipstick shade. "The business has a greater purpose--to help people feel better about themselves."In honor of their achievements, Cartier gave each of the FiFi winners Cartier crystal flutes and a bottle of champagne. Mendoza was presented a Cartier silver frame. Fragrance Foundation president Annette Green was luncheon chairperson.

“There’s a huge gap between the old way of doing things and today. It takes the youth to help evolve that. You have to count on the kids today to help lead you into the future.
