While the fashion flock gets itself geared up for fall, the good folks at Banana Republic and Gap want to bask in the warmth of the summer sun. In separate presentations, both proved that their recent decisions to focus on design-driven clothes made for fun and colorful fare.

Showing poolside at the trendy SoHo House, Banana Republic channeled a Capri-bound Jackie O with strapless dresses, halters and drawstring skirts in oversized florals. And it tempered all those cheery striped or paisley swimsuits with a bright green trench or hot pink cardigan. Meanwhile, going with a more intimate showroom setting, Gap used its design and product development team to model a string of denim jackets with floral trims. Flirty tiered skirts were combined with an array of soft, sherbet-colored tanks, layered one on top of another — because, let’s face it, at these prices, a girl can’t get enough of a good thing.
