Seven scholarships with a combined value of $4,000 are to be awarded for men’s wear, women’s sportswear, eveningwear, children’s wear, swimwear, lingerie, fantasy apparel and one Grand Prize selected from all categories. "The acceptance by John Varvatos to be our designer honoree judge this year adds a new dimension to the evolution of the HSFI ‘Stretch to the Future’ event — men’s fashion," said Bill Girrier, vice president of sales and marketing for RadiciSpandex. "John Varvatos brings fresh, young styling that is both chic and hip, modern and traditional." Varvatos will receive the Stretch to the Future award at HSFI’s yearend fashion show on May 21, when the winning designs will be unveiled.
PANTONE PLANS FOR A PAMPERED WINTER: The winter 2004 season is about pampering oneself, according to the latest Pantone View Colour Planner. "This edition of the Pantone View Colour Planner expresses a real feeling of calm," said Tod Schulman, director of marketing for the Pantone Textile Color System. "Color is less ostentatious and excessive; it’s more discreet and acceptable. But that does not mean that the end product will be boring — a controlled sense of color leaves you much more space to be daring and adventurous in fabric and shape." Consumers at every income level, he added, are looking for quality and value, getting rid of the superfluous and living their lives less chaotically. They are beginning to realize that knowledge, private time, personal energy and space are all personal currencies that are at least as important as money. Colors from the new planner include the Pleasing group, which exemplifies the pamper and indulge mind-set with colors such as Mellow Green, Pale Mauve and Banana Crepe. Focused combines light and darkness with shades like Moonstruck, Lunar Rock and Forest Night. Other groups include Recharging, which is awash with yellow tones and Treats, which includes plastic and synthetic colors.
