NEW YORK — Retailers are reworking their ranks, which comes as no surprise following a tough 2002.
On Thursday, Talbots and J.C. Penney announced high-profile, senior-level substitutions, just three days after J. Crew named former Gap chief executive officer Millard Drexler as chairman and ceo.
Penney’s named Lana Cain Krauter as executive vice president and general merchandise manager of its men’s and children’s divisions, succeeding William Cappiello, who resigned to spend more time with his family, the company said. She was president and chief merchandising officer of Goody’s Family Clothing and before that was Sears Merchandise Group’s senior vice president of ready-to-wear, intimate apparel, accessories and Sears Import.
Meanwhile, Talbots said to help insure long-term growth, Hal Bosworth was promoted to executive vice president and chief merchandising officer, from senior vice president and general manager. He replaces H. James Metscher, who left the company "to pursue other interests," the firm said.
Bosworth, 53, joined Talbots in 1997 and is responsible for merchandising Talbots women’s businesses in stores, catalog on the Web, including misses’, special sizes, accessories and shoes and the Talbots collection. Buying, merchandising, product development and design, merchandise planning and distribution will report to him. Before Talbots, Bosworth was senior vice president of retail at Ermenegildo Zegna. He’s credited with guiding Talbots Kids and launching Talbots men’s wear last year.
Talbots also promoted Michele Mandell, a senior vice president, to the new post of executive vice president of stores and kids, retaining responsibility for women’s retail operations, including sales, profit, merchandise presentation and human resources. She’ll also set strategic direction for the children’s business.
Also, Judy O’Keefe was promoted to senior vice president, merchandise administration and inventory management, and Luch Main Tweet was named senior vice president of manufacturing.
David Dirienzo was promoted to vice president of Talbots men’s; Sandy Forgione was promoted to vice president Talbots Kids.
