LOS ANGELES — Anyone for tea? There was a time when proper ladies gathered regularly to discuss the latest on dits while sipping it and nibbling cakes. Tea dances were important, too. Designers are nostalgic right now, and it’s showing up in their beautiful Twenties- and Thirties-inspired dresses with gathered bodices, dropped waists and frilled or ruffled trims.
But L.A. designers aren’t the only ones reminiscing. Gabrielle Harris and Jane Windsor have started Anyone for Tea?, a party company which provides traditional English food and favors to teas, baby showers and weddings. Whether at a customer’s home or Harris’ farm, guests receive the royal treatment, including a personalized menu. Windsor, a “Days of Our Lives” alum and graduate of Leith’s School of Food and Wine in London, prepares the delectables that are served up on china that Harris, a former model and antique-shop proprietor, has collected over the years. Their specialties are a peanut butter and jelly roll-up for kids or a more adult, “extremely boozy sherry trifle,” says Windsor, who adds that their parties are taking off. “I guess you could call us two old tea bags,” notes Harris.”
