NEW YORK -- The halter-cut bikini was spotted on more than one designer runway during the resort shows last month. It's a new alternative to the much-touted push-up bra.

"The halter is a very modern look," says designer Nicole Miller, who used the silhouette in swimwear for the first time this season. "There are a lot of underwire and push-up looks out there, but the halter is something new and fresh. The back is bare, creating a sexy, interesting look.

"It can double as a top and be worn as sportswear, too," she adds. Another very modern halter benefit: greater protection from the sun.
