Sunny spring days may have most New Yorkers in a buoyant mood. But Tuesday evening, the Cinema Society focused on a more poignant topic when it held a screening co-hosted by Nicole Miller at the IFC Center of “The Life Before Her Eyes,” a thriller about a school shooting based on the Laura Kasischke novel of the same name. The film’s stars—a mix of silver screen veteran Uma Thurman and relative newbies, Evan Rachel Wood and Eva Amurri (with mom Susan Sarandon and step dad Tim Robbins in tow) were on hand for the afterparty at the penthouse of the Soho Grand Hotel.
Wood, who plays Thurman’s younger counterpart in the film, cited her co-star as one of her idols. “I used to pretend to be her in my bedroom when I was little,” said Wood of Thurman. “I mean, what girl didn’t play ‘Pulp Fiction’?” (She seemed to be channeling another style star that night, however: With her ghostly skin, red lips, and raven hair, Wood bore an eerie resemblance to her beau Marilyn Manson’s ex, Dita Von Teese.)
Thurman, meanwhile, no stranger to the red carpet, seemed sick of the step-and repeat routine. “I have no idea what I am wearing,” the actress said while reclining on a sofa beside beau Arki Busson. “Go ask my stylist.”
