Dishing with one of the fashion world’s premier funny men, People style reporter Steven Cojocaru.
When Steven Cojocaru was but a mere glamour-obsessed boy in his native Montreal, he was ostracized for wearing flamboyant clothes. "I got called the ‘F’ word a lot," he said. "And it wasn’t F for Fendi!"
The now even more flamboyant Dolce-Duarte-and-Cavalli-clad, self-styled diva has gained notoriety as a Hollywood-based style reporter for People magazine, "The Today Show" and "Access Hollywood." It came 10 years after arriving in Los Angeles, but his transformation into a pundit and media personality happened following the launch of his weekly People column,"Behind the Seams," in January 2000.
Dubbed by his "Today Show" straight man Matt Lauer as CoJo, this funny man — "I’m the fashion world’s premier clown!" — shares his hopes, dreams and dishes in "The Red Carpet Diaries: Confessions of a Glamour Boy," (Ballantine), out March 4 — just in time for the Oscars.
"It’s completely — subjective!" he exclaimed, as he’s given to, dishing on everything,even his own preternaturally plump lips: "They’re real, not collagen," he insisted. "I used to dream that Mick Jagger and Cher were my parents." Certainly, it would explain his wardrobe.
While he dedicated the book to his seamstress mother, Cojocaru declared it’s Tom Hanks that should’ve shared the honor. "He is probably the most evolved heterosexual man, up there with Matt Lauer. Tom’s so evolved he probably knows what a honey facial is!"
The book is one of those guilty summer reads, but the wily and wiry Cojocaru makes no excuses. "Maybe we’re in a bubble-gum moment because of the economy. Or maybe we’re always in a bubblegum moment and we pretend we’re not. Red-carpet fashion-watching is great fluff. It serves a role — it always has."

Favorite all-time Golden Globe queen:"I love, love, love Courtney Love! We need more Courtney Loves. The majority of the stars coming down the red carpet are so sanitized. These days, celebs are so well-behaved. Remember when Courtney wore that shredded Galliano couture dress with the dead birds? I think I had the agricultural reporter next to me from the local paper, and he thought she was speaking in tongues and should be institutionalized! I don’t know if she’d nipped on the cooking sherry, but she was undone, uncensored, and in your face!"
Overall red-carpet goddess: "It’s a tie between Nicole [Kidman] and Halle [Berry]. I mean, Nicole and Halle dress for their jobs — like movie stars, time and time again."
Runners-up: "Jennifer Aniston is super, super clean, no bells and whistles. Nothing forced about her. Renée Zellweger has come a long way — she was a train wreck just a few years ago. J.Lo goes from streetwalker to movie star with great panache. Sarah Jessica Parker has great energy: She’s one of my absolute favorites. And Rita Wilson has a great personality — she can laugh at herself and she’s not afraid. She dresses smashing. And she has Tom Hanks!"

24-year-old Jean Prounis is redefining the rules of jewelry. Formerly a studio assistant to Jemima Kirke and a design apprentice at Ghuran, she focuses on handcrafted subtleties and ancient goldsmithing techniques. “There was a really sterile feel in the environment and I wanted to have jewelry with character that shapes how you wear it everyday,” Prounis said.
