On a crisp fall day in London, the first signs of winter dressing were evident as young women strolled along the banks of the Thames by Tower Bridge. They bundled themselves into leather jackets, parkas and trenches and slipped on flat leather boots — sometimes with the trousers tucked in. Accessories included light scarves, roomy totes and sunglasses to ward off the glare of the afternoon sun on the river — a rare and welcome occurrence in this city of gray skies. And of course, there were runners, for whom the weather is usually irrelevant.
