Percentage of consumers at different income levels cutting back spending in 12 categories

A national survey of 1,000 consumers in three income groups by WSL Strategic Retail found that even well-to-do shoppers are not immune to concerns about the economy, national security, international travel and SARS. Apparently, the era of conspicuous consumption has given way to an era of selective consumption as affluent shoppers tighten their purse strings and do without some of life’s little luxuries.
