NEW YORK — Jewels can be a charity’s best friend, and last week, jewelers Tiffany & Co. and de Grisogono celebrated good causes.Tiffany took over Grand Central Terminal’s Vanderbilt Hall for Walk Into Time, a special event to celebrate the launch of its new Tiffany Mark watch collection, which hit Tiffany boutiques that day, and to honor five individuals for their commitment to charitable work."What’s more New York than breakfast at Tiffany’s?" said honoree and "Sex and the City" scribe Candace Bushnell, feted for her support of The Housatonic Valley Association, which seeks to preserve natural places throughout the valley. That evening, Bushnell cozied up to GQ publisher Ron Galotti — said to be the original Mr. Big — under the watchful eye of her new husband, Charles Askegard. "My husband and I got our platinum wedding bands at Tiffany, so I feel good about my marriage," she said.Other honorees were Bette Midler, who founded the New York Restoration Project; Marcia Gay Harden, who devotes much of her charitable efforts to the Marcia Gay Harden Educational Foundation and the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation; former Miami Dolphins quarterback Dan Marino, who established the Dan Marino Foundation, the Miami Children’s Hospital Dan Marino Center for children with special needs, and Dr. Edwin Schlossberg, founder of Edwin Schlossberg Inc., which specializes in interactive exhibitions, public information systems and museum planning. Schlossberg, the husband of Caroline Kennedy, also serves on the advisory committees of the John F. Kennedy Library and New York City Outward Bound. For the next three weeks, Tiffany will dedicate each of its window displays to the honorees."This is my only watch, I don’t usually wear watches," admitted Schlossberg, pointing to the Tiffany Mark watch that was presented to him. Harden, meanwhile, can’t get enough of her watch. "I bake, I cook, I jam…all are things where time is important, so I always need a watch," she said.Tiffany and Grand Central’s historic link dates to 1914, when a clock with a face of Tiffany glass was mounted atop the terminal’s southern facade. The clock still graces the landmark terminal today. At Bergdorf Goodman, Fawas Gruosi, president of high-end jewelry company de Grisogono, teamed up with Princess Yasmin Aga Khan for a cocktail reception in anticipation of the 18th annual Rita Hayworth gala benefitting the Alzheimer’s Association."Bergdorf Goodman is one of my favorite stores, and this is a very special reason to come here," said the princess, whose mother, Hayworth, suffered from the disease.
