MILAN — Tod’s is building on its famous “driving shoe” theme with its first piece of apparel: a limited-edition motorcycle jacket. Just 333 units will be made, and they land in Tod’s main stores at the end of October.

Designed for sophisticated biker chicks — on and off two wheels — the napa jacket has contrasting stitching, slanted pockets and pumpkin orange lining. But the real distinction is the elbow patches, dotted with the company’s signature rubber studs.

“The introduction of these new products, which are totally coherent with our quality standards, is part of our strategy,” said Diego della Valle, chairman of Tod’s Group SpA. “In a moment when there’s too much of everything, I’m sure that the desire for simple things will reward us.”

The jacket is available in black with white stitching and vice versa, and in chocolate brown stitched with orange thread. Pricing hasn’t been set yet.

To complement the jacket, Tod’s has also introduced a range of scarves, hats and gloves. The nylon rollover hat features calfskin trim, and the suede gloves are adorned with rubber studs. The striped cashmere scarves are made using a special hand-woven technique.

Retail prices average $253 for gloves, $219 for hats and $331 for scarves.
