If ever there was a race to the Anne Klein department, Melanie Griffith would win.
“It’s fabulous. I’m going to go shopping right now and buy the whole line,” she announced following Neiman Marcus’ luncheon and fashion show honoring Richard Tyler.
She joined a contingent of blond Tyler enthusiasts that included Kelly Lynch, Evi Quaid and Barbara and Nancy Davis.
Tyler, hot on the heels of the previous day’s D.A.R.E. party launching his Anne Klein line at the hot Los Angeles photographer’s studio Smash Box, doesn’t worry about the public confusing his image with the Anne Klein line. “I have to promote the Anne Klein line in order to show my support of it, but in the future you’ll be seeing less of me. I believe the clothes speak for themselves.”
And so they did. Neiman Marcus reported a total of $200,000 for this Anne Klein trunk show, $80,000 from in-store purchases and $120,000 worth of special orders.
Neiman Marcus’s chairman and ceo Terry Lundgren hosted the event, one of his last before leaving for his new post at the Federated Department Stores. What will he miss most about his time with Neiman’s? “Unquestionably – the people. We have had the opportunity to accomplish great things together and I will miss them.”
