NEW YORK - The Laboratory Institute of Merchandising's scholarship fund added $175,000 to its coffers Monday, thanks to a packed benefit at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel that honored Myron E. Ullman, chairman and chief executive officer of R.H. Macy Co., for "superior accomplishments in retailing."

"Due to the combined erosion of federal and state financial aid, you have no idea how important this is," Adrian Marcuse, LIM's president, told the 500 fashion, cosmetics and retail executives in attendance.

LIM, at 12 East 53rd St. here, is a private college for those seeking careers in fashion merchandising.

Ullman praised the school for "academic excellence, a friendly atmosphere and caring faculty, and where job placement is so important."
