NEW YORK — Uniqlo’s fall collection, as well as its newest installment of designer collaborations featuring cashmere knit pieces by designers Lutz & Patmos, Adam Jones and Keita Maruyama, launched last week at the XChange, a loft space here.
Uniqlo has four U.S. locations. In addition to its New York flagship in SoHo at 546 Broadway, Uniqlo has a temporary store at 2231 Broadway, which converted to all children’s wear on Monday, and stores in Rockaway and Menlo Park, N.J.
For fall, the palette consists of mostly browns, blacks and grays, with pops of color. Among some of the looks are women’s drawstring sweatpants with zippered bottoms, retailing for $29.50, a lambswool sweater dress, retailing for $49.50, and “extreme wide-leg fit” jeans that retail for $59.50.
There also are premium down coats in bright shades of red, orange and purple, which retail for $99.50 for women and $129.50 for men. As an alternative to down, Uniqlo is offering synthetic coats that are as warm but lighter than down, said a Uniqlo spokesman.
The strong response to Uniqlo’s Designers Invitation Project for spring 2007, most recently Alice Roi’s collection that hit stores on April 27, convinced the retailer to round up a new slew of designers to create fall collections. Lutz & Patmos, Jones and Maruyama each created cashmere knit pieces that are slated to hit Uniqlo’s SoHo flagship in August.
Lutz & Patmos unveiled five styles for the fall collection consisting of argyle sweaters available in both short and long sleeves, a scoopneck sweater with a diamond jacquard print, and a V-neck striped cardigan, all retailing for $89.50, and a long V-neck cardigan, retailing for $129.50. Jones, British-born and Paris-based, designed a short-sleeved, V-neck dress and a cowlneck dress, both retailing for $159.50. Maruyama’s bell-sleeved sweater dress also retails for $159.50.
