NEW YORK — "Originally, this was going to be a little party in my apartment," said designer Vera Wang, who, to thank her Saks Fifth Avenue sales associates, threw a lavish party at the Rainbow Room Wednesday night. Wang teamed up with her fragrance licensee, Unilever Prestige, and Vogue to host more than a hundred sales associates from Saks’ tri-state doors, who have helped to rocket her scent to the number-one slot at Saks Fifth Avenue fragrance counters since its release at Saks in February. The retailer had an exclusive on the scent until April, at which point it was rolled out to additional retailers.Deborah Walters, vice president and divisional merchandise manager of cosmetics and fragrances for Saks Fifth Avenue, echoed the thanks. "Vera Wang has raised the fragrance bar for us and for the industry," she said. "It’s set all kinds of records [at Saks’] —?top personal appearance, top selling scent, and more. And the magic continues."The magic is also reportedly continuing at the cash registers —?the scent is said to have already exceeded its original first-year sales projection of $3.5 million in Saks doors and is said to be on target to double that figure by the end of its first year in store."We’re thrilled with the response to the fragrance," added Laura Lee Miller, president of Unilever Prestige, who is adding several ancillary items to the Vera Wang beauty collection this fall, including a scented candle. "Vera’s been a great partner."
