SAN FRANCISCO — Levi Strauss & Co. said Tuesday that Carl Von Buskirk has been named president of Levi Strauss & Co. Europe.
Accounting for 23 percent of the company’s sales, LS Europe is the largest division of Levi Strauss International and contributed $1.3 billion in sales in 1993. Von Buskirk, 50, will be responsible for business operations in 22 countries and 5,800 employees. He succeeds Michael Howard, who is retiring.Von Buskirk has been based in Brussels since May 1986, where he was executive vice president of LS Europe. In that capacity, he focused on the company’s established businesses in western Europe. As president, Von Buskirk will oversee staff functions, western and eastern European businesses, the Dockers brand and additional business development programs.
Von Buskirk started at Levi Strauss & Co. in 1969 as an accounts payable supervisor. He held various posts at the company, and was named vice president and general manager of women’s jeans in 1984.
