NEW YORK — To collectors of Fifties and Sixties hot rods, the Von Dutch name brings to mind one of the California artist-mechanics who started the car-customization trend.
Known for his pinstripes and flaming eyeball logo, the cantankerous painter’s creations are avidly collected by members of Hollywood’s monied celebrity set. For those who can’t justify or afford the collection of cars and car-related art, Tonny Sorensen hopes the name can also sell jeans.

"It's really hard sometimes. I think I have a reputation for being really tough and aggressive and pushy but I really am a very shy person who wants to be liked, and that's the conflict constantly. There's something that takes hold - I want people to like me, I don't want to be mean - but if I see something that just cries out to be answered, I go for it," says renowned NBC News correspondent Andrea Mitchell.
