PARIS — Gucci Group has lost another brand executive — this time to archrival LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton.

Susan Whitely, former chief executive officer at Alexander McQueen, has been named managing director at Louis Vuitton for the U.K. and Ireland. The post also has responsibilities for Vuitton operations in Denmark and Sweden, LVMH said in a statement.

Meanwhile, sources in Europe said Whitely’s successor already has been identified: Harrods merchandise director Jonathan Akroyd.

A Gucci Group spokesman declined all comment. Harrods also declined to comment.

Whitely joined McQueen in 2001 from Harvey Nichols, where she had been fashion director and head buyer for women’s wear. At Vuitton, Whitely succeeds Xavier de Royere, who was named general manager of Loewe for the Asia-Pacific region.

News of her exit comes only a week after James Seuss stepped down as ceo of Stella McCartney. As reported, he has been named president of retail and wholesale distribution at Harry Winston, the luxury diamond jeweler.
