As Melrose goes, so goes the world, at least goes the saying. And this summer season, West Coast window dressing celebrates the themes uppermost in everyone’s mind: World Cup soccer by way of licensed wear and abstract designs; the outdoor weekend casual life; and women’s fitness looks (shown with less imagination than one would expect from the big marketers). Trendoids can fill up on preppy-grunge-throwback gear, mixed up with team paraphernalia, or go more purist ê la vintage Daisy Mae. Faux-athletes can exercise their wallets on the latest posh, swank and glamour looks. Those beach bunny leanings shine through with surfwear reminiscent of Malibu in the ’70s: paisleys, table cloth prints, ginghams and daisies.
